Compelling movie about George (Firth) whose lover dies in a car crash. We watch as he does his best to deal with his loss. His best friend Charley (Moore) does her best to pick up his spirits but she has her own problems as well. Both of them struggle he contemplates suicide by handgun while Charley drinks in excess. George befriends a young man at the school where he teaches and looks to this young man for comfort. Julianne Moore’s and Colin Firth’s performances  are amazing and it is a shame they did not win their respective nominations.
