Barney Ross (Stallone) breaks Doc (Snipes) out of jail and we see Doc perform some stunts and fight sequences that are very impressive. The first ten minutes of this movie were very good. Then Barney decides to break his team up and go get younger versions of the Expendables. He hires Bonaparte (Grammer) to help him put this new team together and we travel all around finding each new expendable. He is introduced to Galgo (Banderas) who is too old to join the team according to Bonaparte because he hasn’t taken the time to look at Stallone. Banderas’s performance breathed life into a dying film.
Stonebanks (Gibson) provides us with a new bad guy and Mel Gibson does a great job delivering him. So when Stonebanks turns the tables on Barney and takes his new team hostage, who do you think comes to the rescue for Barney? That’s right the old Expendables. So I ask, why take the time to introduce all these new characters that are just going to become hostages? Luna (Rousey) sneers through the whole film trying to look tough instead of pretty. Problem is Ronda Rousey really is tough, she is a mixed martial artist fighting in the U.F.C. today. That my friends is truly a problem with this movie they are getting fighters and paying them to act. Well I did not pay to watch a fight, I paid to watch a movie. To put it in other terms I would prefer to watch an actor who cannot fight over a fighter who cannot act. There was nothing wrong with bringing in Randy Couture in the first movie because his character was on the peripheral and not front and center. Keep in mind Randy Couture has acted in several films and video games before doing the first movie, he was not an amateur actor.
The one thing that truly annoyed me was this film had Stallone and the boys kind of passing the torch on to the next generation. Unfortunately, I had paid good money to watch that torch burn bright once again at the hands of the men who had delivered some of the best action films ever. The best moments in this movie were provided by the old time actors and they decide to show us some new ones. Spare me. This movie is average at best because it failed to deliver on its original premise and that makes this film a huge failure.
