Based on the Novel “Rum Punch” by Elmore Leonard.
A stewardess who is bringing back money from Mexico for a gun runner gets into hot water when the Mexican people add some cocaine to the package. Jackie Brown (Grier) is then placed in custody until her gun runner friend Ordell Robbie (Jackson) gets her bond paid for. The bail bondsman Max Cherry (Forster) falls for Jackie on first sight, he drives her to her home and befriends her. Ordell pays her a visit the first night she is out and his intentions are not so honourable. Jackie is getting pressure from Ray Nicolette (Keaton) to help him bust Ordell but Jackie wants to be sure she won’t be left out in the cold if things go wrong. This movie has an amazing cast and superb dialogue. Although the movie is over two and a half hours long it does not feel like it at all. Robert Forster and Pam Grier resurrected both their careers with this movie and their performances are letter perfect. Quentin Tarantino proves his mastery of dialogue once again and he directs a fantastic ride that entertains throughout the entire film. Well done, Quentin!!!
