This is the second installment of the Avengers series and the writer/director Josh Whedon delivers another excellent movie. The first movie grossed more than a billion dollars worldwide and this film is every bit as good as the first. I expect this movie to outperform the first in the box office.
The movie starts with the Avengers attacking a bunker controlled by Hydra where they were hiding Loki’s sceptre. They were also conducting human experiments and the results of those experiments introduce us to the Maximoff twins one is vey fast and the other can control minds. The battle in and around the bunker is great, afterwards they go to Stark Tower which now has only an “A” on the side signifying it as the Avengers headquarters. Tony Stark starts conducting experiments on the sceptre and realizes that it could lead to artificial intelligence and help him finish the Ultron Global Peacekeeping Initiative where many iron man suits will help establish and keep world peace. When the artificial intelligence is achieved Ultron (Spader) attacks Jarvis (Bethany) in a battle of programs in a computer. He takes over an Iron Man suit and steals the sceptre.
There is a party scene where many people try to lift Thor’s (Hemsworth) hammer named Mojlnir and the worried look on Thor’s face when Captain America takes his turn is priceless because the hammer is enchanted that only the worthiest may lift it. The team winds up hiding at a safe house owned by Hawkeye (Renner). It is at this safe house where this movie develops the characters and gives the story some needed emotion that gets us involved with the characters. Bruce Banner (Ruffalo) and Natasha Romanoff (Johanssen) open up to each other and the audience letting us know they are both damaged goods.
Ultron travels to South Korea to get a scientist that worked with the Avengers to create himself a body. The final battle is epic and we are treated to fantastic action clever twists and a pure moment of shock for die hard comic fans, one audience member gasped because she was so surprised. I was expecting some great action scenes and this movie delivered. The story and character development were what I appreciated most, this movie is more than just mindless action. Thank you Josh Whedon.
As usual Stan Lee makes an appearance in the movie and if you watch the credits you will see a small scene of what is coming next.
