An excellent movie about the future society where all the rich people live on a utopian outpost above Earth and the rest of humanity must struggle to survive. The people on Earth are not given access to medicine and medical devices that would clearly relieve suffering around the world. There is an incredible underlying theme throughout this movie on how society needs to look at the distribution of wealth. The poor are exploited by corporations and must beg for work. Max (Damon) goes to work and is forced to climb into a machine to unjam it and if he does not he will be fired. Max needs the job, so he goes in and for his efforts he receives a lethal dose of radiation poisoning. In complete agony a machine forces him to sign a form before he receives any medicine. They give him enough medicine to keep him alive for three days. He begs his friend Spider to get him to Elysium so he can use one of their medical machines which could cure him. A great movie with a stand out performance by Sharlto Copley. There are some gory moments so you have been warned.
